Wood Elf Name Generator for Characters, RPGs and Stories

Wood elf names work best when they sound like the forest. This generator builds them from nature word parts, then shows what each name means. Choose male, female or neutral, add a clan name, and copy the ones you like.

What it is

A name tool made for forest elves

A wood elf name generator creates character names for forest elves in fantasy games and fiction. Wood elves usually live among the trees, move quietly and fight with bows. Their names should feel just as light.

This tool joins short word parts, such as Thal for oak and dor for guardian. Together they make Thaldor, a name with a plain meaning built in. The site holds about 3,600 given names and more than 600 clan names. Those parts add up to over two million full names.

You do not need an account, and nothing needs to be installed.

Name styles

Seven styles for seven kinds of wood elf

Each style swaps in different sounds and word parts. Start with the role your character plays, then run a few batches.

  1. Classic

Best for first-time wood elf characters. Example: Thaldor, “oak guardian.”

  2. Forest-inspired

Best for scouts and woodland guides. Example: Wynbrook, “vine brook.”

  3. Ranger and warrior

Best for archers, trackers and border guards. Example: Varrdane, “spear stalker.”

  4. Druid

Best for healers, seers and grove keepers. Example: Orlalyn, “grove stream.”

  5. Royal

Best for nobles, elders and rulers. Example: Aurandel, “gold lord.”

  6. Ancient

Best for old spirits and living legends. Example: Maelorath, “age elder.”

  7. Dark wood elf

Best for exiles, night hunters and villains. Example: Morthorne, “gloom thorn.”

How it works

From blank page to full name in three steps

  1. Set your options

Pick a name type and a style. You can also fix the first letter and choose a list of 5 to 20 names.

  2. Generate a list

One press gives you a fresh batch. Press again for more, since the tool skips names it already showed you.

  3. Keep what you like

Copy a single name or the whole list, download a text file, or save favorites for later.

Where it helps

Names for every kind of story

  • Novels and short storiesShared clan names make a group of elves feel like one people, which saves you from inventing each family by hand.
  • WorldbuildingScouts, guards, elders and shopkeepers all need names. A quick batch beats calling someone “Elf Guard 3.”
Behind the names

Written for this site, not copied

We wrote every word part and meaning in this tool ourselves. We did not pull lists from games, books or other name sites.

Each name goes through a sound check before you see it. The check keeps names between 4 and 12 letters and drops hard clusters of consonants. That is why the lists read well out loud.

UTD Faithfuls is built around one idea, a united clan that stays loyal. That is why every list adds a clan name by default.

The tool runs in your browser, so the names you make never reach our server. The About page explains more about the project.

Is the generator free, and do I need an account?

It is free, and you never need an account. There is no cap on how many names you make.
